To be honest. I've never really "gotten" Seth Godin.
I certainly respect his obvious success, but, to me, he's kind of been like an intellectual "carrot top" character that goes around smashing marketingrmelons and making people smile. I feel the same way regarding my own success with The Book of Questions, anybody could do it, but few do.
I do believe that a common element among most successful endeavors is the ability for someone to see, articulate and execute a vision that is true to themselves. To stay the course, and to face all of the nay sayers (there will be plenty) with a degree of resentment that renders them useless.
Seth's latest blog, June 14, Textbook rant, makes me "get" Seth Godin.
Read it. Embrace it. Twitter it. Link it. Digg it. Email it. Do it, damn it. Demand it. The power of an idea is in its ability to embrace something bigger than ourselves. Do not let this one die. If you consider yourself involved with the "craft" of marketing, this is an opportunity to leverage everything that we should stand for. Let's all get behind Seth and help him turn a "rant" into a "reality."
I'm talking pink ribbon, yellow wrist ban awareness. How about "Books Without Binders"? We have a cause, a leader and technology behind us. Your call, Seth. Our collective resources are behind you.
